Bucky Buenaventura is a twelve year-old genius who causes trouble where ever he goes. Although he didn't give the best impression when meeting Zee and Ro for the first time (kidnapping someone is never a positive thing), they are now able to tolerate him. Most of the time. He actually seems quite fond of Ro (though she's usually right on the verge of slapping him senseless) and just a bit disdainful of Zee (substitute 'disdainful' with 'jealous' if you like). Could Bucky be seriously crushing? *GRIN*

Possessing a mind that most adults would envy, Bucky was emancipated by his parents (who don't seem very responsible, anyway) to leave home and live/work in a prestigious research center. Bucky doesn't seem to like adults- but who can blame him? Almost all of the grownups he knows are total flakes and not even half-way decent role models. Because Bucky doesn't have anyone stable to look up to, he relies on himself. However, while he may have the brain of an advanced individual, he sure doesn't have the maturity levels that should accompany one. Hence, the unending trouble he finds himself in.

Sometimes it may seem like he's the male counterpart to 'The Bad Seed' but Bucky doesn't maliciously cause problems. As a gifted youngster, his view of entertaiment is levels above his peers'. Since flopping in front of a t.v. is only mundane to him, he has to create his own forms of entertainment. Like hacking into highly protected government computer networks.

Bucky also seems to have serious control issues. Even though he has legally been declared an adult, people just don't see him that way; he's viewed as a super-smart, ankle-biter. And when you're one of the most intelligent people on Earth and you've just gone to court to have yourself declared free from your parents, NOTHING is more unnerving than being sent to your room and grounded by some uppity head scientist. But instead of earning people's respect through increasing his maturity, Bucky aims to do it by gaining power. For example, he knew he couldn't get revenge on Dr. Tannor unless he was bigger. Solution? Take control of Zee! I don't even want to know who he was getting even with when he planned to take over IU7's mind... ;) This may also explain why he's so fond of cracking into computer systems- the targets don't know he's twelve, only that he's smart enough to get past their impossibly expensive safety software.

In Season 2, Bucky's role in the series became much more complex and important to the plot. There were several times this season when Bucky's loyalty was seriously in question- he left Ro and Zee hanging in quite a few dangerous situations when his own security was at stake. However, he's pretty much made up for it by assisting Ro and Zee during Krick's second ambush and leading Ro to her brother, Casey MacCurdy. Still, a lot of people don't like Bucky because he remains egotistical, snotty, and rude. I happen to think he's cute- not that I'd ever want to babysit him. ;)
